Oak, Elm & Birch LLP is hiring a legal secretary to support the firm's Real Estate team at
our Hartford office. The Real Estate group is led by Wallace Blackwood and handles commercial
development, mixed-use projects, and waterfront land-use matters across Connecticut and
southern New England.
What the role covers
- Calendar and travel management for two partners and three associates in the Real Estate
group.
- Document preparation and revision using Microsoft Word and the firm's style guide, with
heavy use of tracked changes and document comparison tools.
- Closing-binder assembly for commercial real estate transactions, including coordination
with title companies, lenders, and opposing counsel on closing logistics.
- Filing and recording coordination with Connecticut town clerks and the Secretary of the
State.
- Time-entry and billing support, working with the firm's accounting staff to ensure
transaction expenses are captured accurately.
- General client-communication support — letter drafting, meeting coordination, and phone
coverage for the team's partners.
Required experience
- Five or more years of legal secretarial experience, with at least two years supporting a
real estate or corporate practice.
- Advanced Microsoft Word skills, including styles, numbering, tables of authorities, and
document comparison tools.
- Prior experience with closing-binder assembly for commercial transactions.
Preferred experience
- Prior experience at a Hartford-area law firm.
- Familiarity with the firm's software stack (iManage Work, Intapp Time, Microsoft 365).
- Notary public commission in the State of Connecticut.
